This is a non-public client info page
This page is created to help my clients that currently have Twitter fully integrated with their Squarespace website.
The Problem
Due to all the high profile changes at X / Twitter, the company has stopped Squarespace (and most other tech companies) from having access to Twitter via an API (Application Programming Interface). Prior to this change Squarespace had a beautiful API for over a decade and now the Twitter areas on my client’s websites are no longer updating or operating. All functions are off.
Currently, the only way to show any embedded content from Twitter on your website is to use Twitter’s own code snippets. I have created versions of all the options available below to help you decide how you would like me to tackle your Twitter area within Squarespace.
Options
Username + Large Button

Timeline Light (custom size set at 600 pixels high and no width specified for this demo)
Timeline Dark (custom size set at 300 pixels high and no width specified for this demo)

Design Variables
That’s pretty much it. You only only choose Buttons or Timeline. If you choose Timeline then only Light or Dark themes along with height or width are available for customisation.
It’s bonkers, but Twitter is pretty random right now. I personally find the buttons are OK but so basic it’s hardly worth it, and the Timeline is downright ugly and will not blend in with a client’s design look and feel.
Hopefully things will change again and maybe Twitter will allow Squarespace (and others) to rebuild a pretty and design led API (integration). After years of beautiful Twitter feeds on my client websites it’s sad to see such a basic look.
Alternative Designs
Other ideas that we can control from a design point of view would be to set some of your favourite content as static / non-updating text and or images. For example:
Favourite Tweet Re-written in website design style (fonts, colours, centralised, custom width etc.)
